Community Planning

Every Minnesota community has a history and a future that defines its housing stock. Many Minnesota communities are in strong growth areas and are working hard to keep up with the demand for new housing whereas other communities may be experiencing a decline in population and now have an aging housing stock.

Some communities have substantial growth in above-moderate housing but little growth in affordable housing stock. Some may need more rental housing to meet the demand of their residents. MHP considers community planning as an essential step to determine the demand in a community in the development of affordable housing.

Community planning defines what type of housing is needed in the area and how will it get built. MHP may be able to provide technical and financial assistance to communities and/or organizations that are doing community planning.

MHP supports community participation in the planning process and implementation plans that define a specific number of units to be built or rehabilitated after the planning is done.
