MHP's Impact Spotlight Features Innovative Housing Development in MN

In March 2012, the MHP launched the Impact Spotlight to highlight pace-setting affordable housing development projects in Minnesota. Featuring a different development or program each month, the Impact Spotlight celebrates the work of affordable housing partners in creating healthy, sustainable communities. Check out the innovative housing our state offers thanks to the hard work of so many who care about safe, affordable places Minnesotans can call home!

 

March 2012: Silver Creek Corner Apartments - Rochester, Center City Housing Corp

The only "Housing First" harm-reduction facility in Minnesota for chronically homeless, alcohol dependent individuals southeast of the Twin Cities.

April 2012: Breckenridge Townhomes - Eagle Lake, Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership

Prevented the loss of nine affordable housing units for local residents with limited income after other public housing was decommissioned.

May 2012: Thomas T. Feeney Manor – Minneapolis, Minneapolis Public Housing Authority

First public housing community in the nation to offer enhanced assisted living and comprehensive memory care housing to low-income seniors.

July 2012: Lincoln Place – Eagan, Dakota County Community Development Agency

Largest suburban project in Minnesota to link affordable housing for youth aged 18-24 with services that encourage self-sufficiency.

August 2012: Duluth Veterans' Place – Duluth, One Roof Community Housing

Offers supportive and transitional housing for homeless veterans, and houses the regional office of the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans, as part of a neighborhood revitalization strategy.

September 2012: Conifer Estates – Bemidji, Headwaters Housing Development Corporation

The only example in Northern Minnesota of multiple tribes and other agencies working together to create a supportive housing project.

October 2012: Higher Ground – Minneapolis, Catholic Charities of St Paul & Minneapolis and Community Housing Development Corporation

First of its kind in Minnesota, combines permanent housing and emergency shelter in one building.

November 2012: Sustainable Building Program - Greater Minnesota, Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota

Saves families an average of $285 a year on heating costs, making home ownership more affordable.

December 2012: Kings Crossing Apartments - St. Paul, Episcopal Homes of Minnesota

Nationally recognized, and links low-income seniors to transit and retail shops.  The development's street level shops bring jobs and services to the community.

Congrats to Aeon for winning AIA's 2013 Affordable Housing Design Award for the Renaissance Box!

MHP has two funding opportunities available for nonprofit developers and government agencies building affordable housing in Minnesota. MHP’s Wells Fargo EQ2 Loan Fund has $200,000 remaining; interested developers should contact Cynthia Paulson immediately. We are also accepting applications for the Predevelopment Loan Fund, which provides loans of up to $50,000 for predevelopment expenses.
