Jeff Corey of the Northern Communities Land Trust (NCLT), is one of six outstanding Minnesotans to receive the 2011 Virginia McKnight Binger Award in Human Service. The $10,000 award honors Minnesota residents who give their time to improve the lives of people in their communities. Jeff is being recognized for his "great energy and compassion in [his] work to help others."
Jeff is the executive director of NCLT which provides jobs, training, and affordable homes to people in need. Jeff was hired in 1998 as the organization's sole employee; NCLT recently completed its 200th home in the Duluth area. NCLT helps families with low to middle incomes purchase homes for substantially less than market value. When they sell the homes, they are able to keep their initial investment, plus one-third of the increase in market value during their time as owners.
Since 1985, The McKnight Foundation has given the awards each year to recognize Minnesotans who demonstrate the difference one person can make in helping others. For more information see www.mcknight.org/awards.
Congratulations to Jeff Corey for this exemplary and well-deserved honor!
